Attendance

ABSENCES AND LATES:

It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to notify the attendance office by telephone or email in the morning of the absence.  In addition to any notification, parents/guardians must provide a signed, written excuse or an email within 10 school days of returning to school containing the following:

  • Date
  • Grade
  • Student’s complete name
  • Date(s) absent
  • Reason
  • Parent/Guardian signature
  • Parent/Guardian phone contact

BOCES AM/PM ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE:

  • Students are NOT allowed to drive to BOCES without prior permission from the principal.
  • Students must be present for block 4 to be marked present for the day. 
     

TECSMART ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE:

  • Students must be present for block 4 to be marked present for the day.  
     

LATE TO SCHOOL PROCEDURE:

  • Students that are late to school must sign in at the front desk to get a pass to class.
  • Students arriving late to school after 10:45am without a note, will result in a call home to confirm their late status. 
  • Students will be allowed up to (3) unexcused late to school each marking period without penalty. The following consequences will be assigned for unexcused tardiness:
    • 4 days = lunch detention
    • 5 & 6 days = 1 after school detention
    • 7 or more days = In school suspension (ISS)
    • 10 or more days = additional loss of privileges

EARLY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE:

  • Students must provide an early dismissal note signed by a parent/guardian to the Attendance office as they arrive at school and obtain a pass to leave early. 
  • All notes need to include a parent/guardian phone number for verification purposes.
  • Emails will be accepted for students leaving for early dismissal. Students must go to the attendance office to pick up their pass to leave school early

LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY RELEASE:

  • Seniors are invited to apply for late arrival/early release privileges. Forms are available in the AP & Guidance offices. These options are available to

fully prescribed students who are scheduled for study halls at the beginning or end of the school day.  Eligibility requirements for privileges are based on academics, attendance and conduct.  Students must also have their own method of transportation in order to arrive late and leave early.

The following reasons for pupil absences, tardiness, and early dismissal shall be considered to be excused:
 

Physical Illness Hospitalization
Illness or death in the family Required court appearance
Religious observance Participation in school-sponsored activity
Medical Appointments Up to three (3) approved college visits
