School Closings/Delays
Emergency Closing InformationThe Superintendent of Schools is responsible for the closing of school when an emergency occurs which would affect the health and safety of students.
Emergency school closing information will be available on the main page of this website, on the radio, or at www.timesunion.com or www.wnyt.com. The district also uses the SchoolMessenger system to alert parents via phone call, text message and email. Sign up or review your account to make sure all contact information is correct so you can modify how you receive messages if you want to.
Please avoid calling the Transportation Department, District Office, or schools to find out if school is delayed or closed, so that phone lines may remain clear to communicate closure/delay status.
School Closing/Delay Information
We would also like to remind everyone about our communication plan for weather-related announcements. Cancellations, delays or early dismissals are posted on the main page of this website, sent via Twitter @BSCSD and announced through the media via the School Closing Network (which includes both local TV & radio stations and newspaper websites).
The district also uses the SchoolMessenger system to alert parents via phone call, text message and email.
It is always best to rely on more than one source of information when it comes to weather-related announcements. This is particularly true in situations that involve severe weather, including power outages, which can prevent or delay electronic notifications.
